Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2017Style: Super MarioVerified PurchaseI ordered this controller for $20 on Cyber Monday, and I would definitely pay full price still if I had to.
Going in, you should know this does not have HD Rumble, Amiibo , or Motion Controls. You can only use it when the system is docked.
If you still choose to buy this controller knowing those things, you'll be more than pleased.
The Mario design is great to look at. I worry that it might rub off with heavy use, but I'll update you in 6 months.
The controller feels good in your hands. It has a nice weight to it. All of the buttons feel good. Clicking the joy sticks is a little tough compared to stock Joy-cons. Being able to change the joystick heads is really nice.
I was worried that the removable USB cable would easily wear out and not stay connected to the controller, but the assembly feels very sturdy. The plastic around the cable actually fits into a recessed square receptacle in the controller so that it won't fall out easily.
This is a nice controller to have around for two player games. It's still up for debate whether this is more cost effective than just buying a second set of joy-cons. That will depend on how future games treat two player, but for now, this is a nice cheap option.
P.S. this works with PC also like Xbox and Playstation controllers, so it does double duty if you're a PC gamer as well.

Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2018Style: Super MarioVerified PurchaseI love the comfort of these controllers and the price, so when I read reports that they work with Steam, I was all over it. Plus the designs are cool too!
For Steam , what I found was you have to go into controller settings in the Steam client (I can't if it's required that you go into Big Picture mode first) and then enable for Switch controllers. For each game, when I play them for the first time with these controllers I have to start the game up, then close it entirely and re-start the game. Once I do that the Steam client apparently fixes the button mappings and then everything works fine (including situations where the game didn't even recognize the controller at first). So it's an extra step compared to the "just plug it in and it works" functionality of the XBOX controllers for PC, but no real pain once you know the trick.
The analog pads are interchangeable based on how you want it to feel. I bought both the Mario and Zelda controllers and found it interesting that each came with separate pad types (indented vs rounded), but you can mix and match. Just make sure to push the pad in with enough force that it doesn't pop off too easily. If you throw these in a backpack with other stuff to take to a friend's house, just keep an eye on the pads to make sure they didn't pop off in transit or going in/out of the bag.

Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2020Style: Super MarioVerified PurchaseI'm not a naggy person, but unfortunately most of the negative reviews are true.
The left joystick sticks to the side, so if you're going right and you let the joystick go (so that it returns to the center by itself) it'll get "glued" to that side until you wiggle it with your thumb. Not cool when you're trying to play Megaman, or Smash, or ANY game actually...
It's not an awful controlled, the grip is fine and it feels nice, however you can tell it's made out of cheap plastic... when you press the buttons they make a void sound, which doesn't happen with the joycons for example.
It's a real shame because this brand is supposed to be superior to many others, but now I fear they made this cheap controlled on purpose so that you have to buy the expensive ones... let's hope that's not the case.

Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2018Style: Super MarioVerified PurchaseI purchased this item February 11th and have used it A LOT. This is my only controller besides joy cons and it's great. Feels good, looks nice, doesn't feel cheap, switchable sticks, long ass wire. Works without a problem after 5 months (used for BOTW, Splatoon, MK8, and multiple fighting games)

Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2018Style: Super MarioVerified PurchaseSo I have used this controller for about two weeks after buying the switch in late November and it was perfectly fine. Despite having some missing features of the pro controller, it still felt great to use for the switch. Fast forward about 8 months, I have not used the controller at all and when I go to use it, the right joystick basically does not function at all. It has a mind of its own and my question is how could this happen if I had only used it for a short period of time and put it away safely? Maybe I was just unlucky to get a bad controller shipped out to me, but again if the controller wouldn't work I would at least expect it to not work out of the box or to lose its life after many hours of gameplay. If you can save enough to buy the pro controller, I would recommend that instead which is what I chose to do after experiencing the rightstick issue.

1.0 out of 5 stars Proprio no!

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid controller!
Style: Super MarioVerified PurchaseSolid controller, been using for about 5 months. Right stick got a tad squeaky but it’s not that big of a deal. Switched over to this controller because the Joycon drift was too annoying, and the wireless controller was a little too pricy at the time for me. This is a great controller for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Alternative
Style: Super MarioVerified PurchaseIf you can't afford a pro controller or want a spare controller, this is a solid pick. Only problem with the product is it comes with a weird mixture of interchangeable joystick alternatives at different heights that are concave or convex.

Kooooo
5.0 out of 5 stars Cheaper way to add players & nice design
Style: Super MarioVerified PurchaseReally lovely looking controller, the wire is a shame but my son prefers this for handling than the small switch controls & it’s great it’s always ready to use. A cheaper way to add a player. The wire is long and has to be connected for playing but is detachable for storage
